25 jobs to be lost in Kenmare as factory closes
Food processing factory Kenmare Select, which specialises in smoked salmon and other fish products is to close its doors in Co. Kerry with the loss of 25 full-time jobs.
The factory which was established in the early 1990s nformed of the decision at a meeting Wednesday morning.
Independent TD Michael Healy-Rae says the job losses in Kenmare are a devastating blow to the area.
Speaking to Radio Kerry, Deputy Healy-Rae, says he is upset for workers and management at the factory.
“I’m devastated for them because the loss of this amount of jobs in our locality – I would only compare it to loosing maybe 200 or 250 jobs in the greater Dublin area – because trying to replace these jobs is going to be very, very difficult.”
