Air routes from Cork and Dublin to Chicago from €139
Low-cost Icelandic carrier WOW air has announced new routes from Dublin and Cork to Chicago, with fares starting in July from €139 one way including taxes. WOW already operates US routes from Ireland to New York, Miami, LA, San Francisco and Pittsburgh.
“The addition of Chicago to WOW air’s growing list of destinations is part of our ongoing strategy to deliver even greater flexibility and convenience to our passengers, with more connections to North America via our Reykjavik hub,” chief executive Skúli Mogensen said.
The airline said the new service is estimated to generate approximately $80 million (€74 million) in annual economic impact for the Chicago region and will boost tourism and business for both the cities of Chicago and Reykjavik.
WOW’s checked bag fees are among the most expensive in the industry, with 12kg carry-on bags starting from €41.99 each way on connecting flights between Europe and North America and 20kg checked bags priced from €57.99 each way.
WOW Plus and WOW Biz fares – two of three new tiered pricing options launching this June – have higher baggage allowances, but also higher fares.
Last week, American Airlines also confirmed the return of its seasonal flights from Ireland to the US, including a direct Dublin/Chicago flight from May 6.
