Dublin_Airport_Terminal_1_Departures_LevelDublin Airport is to create more jobs this year as its passenger numbers hit a record 25 million in 2015. The number of passengers using the airport rose by 15% in 2015 – an additional 3.3 million on the previous year. The growth was driven by 22 new routes and extra capacity on almost 40 existing routes.

This growth in passenger numbers is set to continue this year, as 11 new services are due to start, including new direct services to Hartford Connecticut, Los Angeles, Newark and Vancouver as well as new routes to Athens and Pisa.

To cope with the growing numbers, the DAA is in the middle of recruiting new staff in areas such as security, customer service and asset management.

DAA hired about 170 new staff last year and expects to hire another 180 this year.

“Dublin Airport had a fantastic year of passenger growth in 2015, which is good news for the Irish economy, for tourism, and for job creation, both at the airport and in the wider economy,” commented the Chief Executive of DAA, Kevin Toland.

He said the new staff currently being recruited will be mainly in customer-facing areas, as the company works to ensure that Dublin Airport continues to offer an “excellent and efficient product” to passengers and airline customers as traffic increases.

Commenting on the figures, Transport, Tourism and Sport Minister Paschal Donohoe said that connectivity is vital for our island economy and the impact of the additional passengers and new routes at Dublin Airport will be felt right across the country.

Dublin Airport is an international airport serving Dublin, the capital city of Ireland. In 2014, 21.7 million passengers passed through the airport, in 2015 the number increased to 25 millions.
