FBD to spend €5.5m on Castleknock hotel expansion
FBD Property and Leisure Limited (FBDPLL) has applied for planning permission for a €5.5 million upgrade of Castleknock Hotel and Country Club in Dublin.
If successful, the planned 21,280sq ft expansion will create an additional 46 rooms at the hotel, bringing the total number of bedrooms to 190.
As part of the development plan, the day spa – currently located on the first floor of the hotel – will move to the ground floor, with the addition of a new aerobics suite and five new treatment rooms.
The total cost of the investment in Castleknock Hotel is €5.5 million. The project is also expected to create up to 100 positions during the construction phase, with a further 20 new positions created at the hotel on completion. This will bring the total number of full-time and seasonal employees to 220.
David Kelly, Chief Executive of FBDPLL, said: “Our hotels have been performing ahead of projections, with Castleknock Hotel having made significant progress since the first green shoots of economic recovery emerged.
“We know that the demand for hotel rooms in the capital is high and growing, while the supply of new rooms has stagnated in recent years. We are delighted to be in a position whereby we can bring an additional 46 rooms to the market in a prime Dublin location to help meet this growing demand for increased hotel capacity.”
FBD Property and Leisure Ltd owns and manages three hotels in Ireland including Castleknock, Faithlegg House Hotel in Waterford, the Tower Hotel, Waterford, and two resorts in southern Spain, La Cala Resort and Sunset Beach Club. The company employs more than 700 staff across its hotel and resort portfolio. It is targeting €50 million in operating profits across its portfolio over the next five years.
