The Vintners’ Federation which represents the majority of publicans in Ireland has said it expects it’s members to create 5,000 more seasonal jobs than usual this summer due to increased tourism and continued economic growth.
The VFI said tourism figures are already up 16% on this time last year and there is more of a rise expected in overseas and domestic tourism numbers this summer.
Publicans said they want the Government to reduce current levels of excise on alcoholic drinks in order to make Ireland more competitive.
Irish pubs generate 12,000 additional seasonal jobs every summer.
