LacPatrick co-op to invest in Co Tyrone expansion
The LacPatrick co-op is to invest €42 million at its plant in Co Tyrone in a development plan that will dramatically increase its milk processing capacity.
Work has already begun on the expansion of the factory in Co. Tyrone and is expected to be complete by April 2017.
As part of the million euro investment LacPatrick is to create 15 additional jobs in its co-op. 150 jobs will also be created during this time by a number of contractors during the 15-month construction phase and the factory will use the new Strabane gas link as its primary source of energy.
LacPatrick’s Artigarvan facility currently has a daily processing capacity of one million litres of liquid milk, the new 30,000 sq ft investment will take that capacity up to 2.5m litres a day.
Operations director at the LacPatrick Group, Tommy Thompson, said, “Our Artigarvan plant has been exporting high quality milk powders for decades to more than 30 countries worldwide.
“Our milk pool is growing rapidly and our members were keen we develop a sustainable and effective facility that will enable them to secure routes to primary export markets.
“We have already established a reputation of excellence and we see this as a real opportunity to push this out even further globally when the plant is up and running in 2017.”
