Major investment programme for Cork, Kerry
Details of proposed Government investments to be made in Cork and Kerry will be outlined later today at a briefing by Minister for Public Expenditure Brendan Howlin and Minister for Agriculture, Food & the Marine Simon Coveney.
Major projects being proposed include a programme of school building, the provision of primary care centres in health, and the construction of 2,500 social houses in Cork city and county and another 1,000 social houses in Kerry by 2017.
Under the proposals, new Garda stations are planned in Macroom and Glanmire in Co Cork, while it is proposed that Garda stations at Anglesea Street in Cork and in Tralee will be refurbished.
The proposals are part of the Government’s capital investment plan to run for the next five years.
The briefing will take place at the Irish Maritime Energy Resource Cluster at Ringaskiddy in Co Cork, which is to receive funding of €25 million under the capital plan.
