Most tech professionals planning to change jobs in next year
A survey released by Career Zoo has suggested that 80% of tech professionals plan to change jobs within the next 12 months, with factors such as family-friendly policies and travel opportunities the incentives that would attract them to new roles.
A similarly overwhelming majority (85%) indicate in the survey that will change jobs every five years for the remainder of their careers. Interestingly, salary was listed as the least important factor to consider when looking for a new job, from a list of 12.
Turning to current events, 43% of respondents believe Brexit will have repercussions for their career, while 30% believe the recent European Commission ruling on Apple’s tax affairs in Ireland may impact their careers.
Jackie Slattery, Director of Career Zoo, said: “Because of their in-demand skills and experience levels, tech professionals place less value on pay-scales than other workplace factors… what they consider important when assessing a potential new employer are factors like family-friendly policies, travel opportunities, an enjoyable work environment, generous levels of annual leave, and flexible work options, such as remote working and flexible hours.
“In this highly mobile and globalised industry, where workers relish travel opportunities and are happy to relocate for a job that suits their needs, the challenge for employers is to respond to the demand for family-friendly, flexible work options and non-pay-related perks, to ensure they can attract the very best talent.”
The release of the survey coincided with the launch of October’s Career Zoo event, taking place at the Convention Centre in Dublin on Saturday 15th October. Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Mary Mitchell O’Connor TD, also attended the launch.
