The Dow Chemical Company Invests in OxyMem’s Waste water Treatment Technology
The Dow Chemical Company, based in Michigan has invested in a small UCD spin-off which has developed a novel method of treating sewage at lower cost.
The chemical company is one of the biggest chemical companies in the world and has annual sales of nearly $49bn.
The company will invest in the Athlone-based Oxymem’s waste water treatment technology to help expand its operations.
The investment will accelerate the commercialisation of OxyMem’s promising waste water treatment technology, the Membrane Aerated Biofilm Reactor (MABR). The MABR technology has the potential to bring waste water treatment closer to energy neutrality by reducing energy consumption for aeration by up to 75 percent.
OxyMem was co-founded by Professor Eoin Casey, Dr Eoin Syron and Wayne Byrne in 2013 as a spin-out from UCD’s School of Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering.
