UK top destination for professionals leaving Ireland
According to new data released by LinkedIn, the UK remains the top destination for professionals leaving Ireland, despite the country’s intention to leave the European Union. The level of movement between both countries did fall, however, with approximately 26% of all talent leaving Ireland opting for the UK between October 2016 and April 2017, compared to approximately 27% in the previous six months.
The report shows that Ireland also continues to benefit from professionals moving to the country, with the software sectors demand for talent continuing to grow. As home to over 900 software companies, both indigenous and multinational firms, there is still huge demand for talent in the industry.
Commenting on the data, Senior Director International Operations and Site Leader of LinkedIn Ireland, Sharon McCooey said: “Our latest professional migration data makes for interesting reading given that the UK remains highly attractive for Irish workers despite the uncertainty over Brexit negotiations. While there is a slight fall in the total share of professionals emigrating to the UK compared to the previous period, it is still too early to tell whether this is a trend which will continue in the short term.
“Ireland remains highly attractive for migrating professionals thanks to our membership of the EU, particularly given that we will soon be the only English speaking member of the Eurozone. Our positive reputation in a range of sectors and the presence of numerous multinationals also helps to entice people to move to Ireland. As a company, LinkedIn has benefited directly from this 28 different languages spoken at our international headquarters in Dublin.”
