US pharma services firm Tech Group eyes significant Dublin expansion
Dublin could be in line for another jobs boost with a planned multi-million euro expansion of a US-owned pharma outsourcing firm, the Irish Independent has learned.
Tech Group is part of Pennsylvania-based West Pharmaceutical Services.
Tech Group already has a significant operation in Mulhuddart, Dublin, where operations include the manufacture of injectable devices for diabetes patients.
It announced a separate expansion in 2014 after securing a large contract.
That extension has been recently completed.
The US parent is now looking for permission to construct a new 5,545 sq m (60,000 sq ft) medical device moulding facility that will include new production and warehousing facilities. It will be built beside the existing Mulhuddart plant.
The company already employs over 200 people on the site.
A spokesman said: “In order to provide our customers with innovative drug delivery systems that enhance the administration of pharmaceuticals, we will continue to expand the facility as needed.”
Last month, West Pharmaceutical Services broke ground on construction of a €100m facility in Waterford that will employ 150 people when it’s completed in late 2018.
That 95,000 sq ft plant will manufacture packaging components for insulin injector cartridges and other high-value packaging components for injectable drugs.
The spokesman said the investments reinforce West’s ongoing commitment to its operations in Ireland.
The latest publicly-available accounts for Tech Group show it made a pre-tax profit of €2.7m in 2013 on revenue of €57.1m.
